Hello Everyone,
Knowing God by name has been one of the most exciting studies that we have ever attempted. As we continue this study this week we will be looking at the actual name of God. This is not just a title that God would use but His name. Read with me in Exodus 3:3-6.
3 So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up."
4 When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!"
And Moses said, "Here I am."
5 "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." 6 Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
It was for a good reason that Moses hid his face, because he was about to learn the name of his God.
And it was the most sacred name of all. “Jehovah”.
All throughout history, the Jews have regarded this name as the most holy, most glorious name of names.
It is a name that gripped them with fear and filled them with awe.
This was such a name that they would not even pronounce it.
So much so that every time that they encountered it as they translated or copied the Old Testament, they would stop, take off their clothes, take a complete bath, put on clean clothes, and then taking up a new quill or pen that had never been used before-they would copy the name.
Sometimes they would do this ritual two or three times in one verse.
“Jehovah”!
Oh How He Loves Us!
