Hello Everyone, 1

The word Paradox means a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true.

People struggle for their life. They fight for their right and wrestle for their greatness - only to find that it is the other way around that we can find them. Jesus said:

John 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
John 12:25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
John 12:26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves me.

What was this paradox that Jesus was teaching?
First of all IT IS ONLY BY DEATH THAT YOU CAN GAIN LIFE:

John 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

The grain of wheat was ineffective and unfruitful so long as it was preserved, as it were, in safety and security. (Comfort Zone)

It was when it was thrown into the ground, and buried there as if in a grave, that it bore fruit.

It is by dying to sin through repentance and total surrender to Christ that we can gain eternal life in God.
It is only when we have buried our personal aims and ambitions that we begin to be of real use to God.
It is by the death of our personal desires and ambition that we become a servant of God.
It is by surrendering our own ways to God’s way that we become fruitful and effective for God.

It was by the death of the martyrs that the Church grew. We see this in the quote: "The blood of the martyrs was the seed of the Church."

Hello Everyone, 5

Your Bible says the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which is lost. Salvation is the purpose. If you want an adventure, if you want to be a part of something that really counts, then pour your life into getting men saved and you’ll be glad when you come to the feet of Jesus.

You can let Wall Street handle the finances and let Washington handle the politics and let Hollywood handle the fame. You want to be a WINNER of souls. YOUR Bible says, “He that winneth souls is wise.” I am not ashamed of the purpose of the Gospel which is salvation.

I’ll tell you another thing, I am not ashamed of the POWER of the Gospel. “For it is the power of God unto salvation.” And the word “POWER” is the word we get our word dynamite from.

The “dunamis” of the Gospel and I am grateful for that divine dynamite. If sit on an atomic bomb and explode it they wouldn’t find any part of you to bury. But that could not blow the sin out of your heart.

I tell you there is a POWER that can make drunkards sober. There is a power that can make crooked men straight. There is a power that can make wicked men pure. Have you come in contact with that power?

The apostle Paul was not ashamed of the plan of the Gospel either. “. . . to every one that believes. . .” That’s it. That’s the plan. That is incredible. All of the rest of the religions of the world are spelled D-O. DO this, DO this, DO this. Ours is spelled d-o-n-e, done. It is finished. You put your faith where God has put your sins - on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you’ll be saved.

The word doesn’t mean mere intellectually. It means trust.

I wouldn’t trust the best 15 minutes I ever lived to get me saved or to keep me saved. It is by GRACE through faith that the promise might be sure to all. Isn’t that a glorious gospel?

This gives us boldness to witness, because we've got something worth sharing. Everybody that you see is either saved or lost. If they are lost they are a prospect. If they are saved, they are a partner.

Let's make this year ALL about others.

I Am a Debtor. I am Ready. I am not Ashamed!

Hello Everyone, 4

David Livingston, one of the greatest missionaries of history said this and I want you to listen. “Send me where You will, but go with me. Lay any burden on my heart, but sustain me. Sever any tie, but the one the binds my heart to Thee.”

Paul was ready to live, ready to die, ready to go. Now watch this, he was ready to stay.

v. 13

I wanted to come but I have been prevented. You see, we don’t just up and go. Sometimes God says, “Go.” Sometimes God says, “Stay.” I honestly, sincerely believe sometimes it’s harder to stay than it is to go. But God's will and way are always best.

PAUL WAS FEARLESS OF THE OPPOSITION TO THE GOSPEL. They would laugh at him. They would persecute him. But he would say, “I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ”.

I wonder where you work or go to school are you ashamed of Jesus.

David when he came against Goliath, David said to Goliath, Look, I’ve already killed a lion. I’ve already killed a bear and you’re next in line.

That’s what Paul is saying. I’ve been here. I’ve been there and now I’m going to Rome. I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God give us some men, women, boys, and girls who are not ashamed of Jesus.

Don’t be ashamed of Jesus. Rome was a proud city. But Paul is going there with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remember that the Christians of this day, they didn’t have money, prestige, power. But they had Jesus!

Now what did Paul mean when he said, “I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ”?

First of all, Paul was not ashamed of the Person of the Gospel. It is the Gospel of Christ and you never need to be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

There are almost 7 billion people on earth today. About 60 billion have lived through all history. About 50,000 are being added to the world’s population every day. But I’m telling you there is one person who stands out above all of those who ever lived or whoever will live and His name is Jesus Christ.

And there’s not a moment in time when there are not millions of people studying what that one Man said and trying to arrange their lives according to what He said.

I am not ashamed of the One who stepped out of heaven, suffered and bled for me. I’m not ashamed of the Person of the Gospel.

I am not ashamed of the Purpose of the Gospel. Paul said I’m not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.

What is the purpose of the Gospel? It’s salvation. Man needs more than soap and soup. He needs salvation.

Hello Everyone, 2

PAUL WAS FAITHFUL TO THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE GOSPEL.

Paul felt obligated. In Romans 1 he said, “I am obligated” or “I am a debtor . . . “

Now what does that mean? To whom was Paul in debt? To what was Paul in debt? Well, number one, Paul was in debt to Christ.

Go back to verse 1. “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ . . .” he says he is a “servant”.”

Paul saw himself a bond slave to the one who died for him. Question, did Jesus die for you? Yes! Alright, Jesus with His blood bought you. Therefore, Paul later told the Corinthians, “You’re not your own. You are bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.”

You say, “Pastor, are you saying we have to work for our salvation?” No! Salvation is by grace.

Paul saw himself as a debtor to Christ.

Also Paul saw himself as a debtor to those around him.

Verse 14, I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

The Greeks, they were the up and ups. The non-Greeks, they were the down and out. Paul said, I am a debtor to the cultured. I am a debtor to the crude KJV uses the word “barbarians”. I am a debtor to the intelligent. I am a debtor to the ignorant. Men all around us need the Lord Jesus Christ and we have the message.

Paul knew that he was a debtor to those around him.

Hello Everyone, 1

Jesus met Paul on the road to Damascus in a post resurrection appearance. And when Paul, who was then called Saul, saw Jesus he asked him the two greatest questions that anyone can ever ask.

Question number one: Who are You Lord?

Question number two: What would You have me to do?

The two greatest questions that anyone could ever ask: The apostle Paul spent the rest of his life discovering the answer to those two questions: Who are You Lord? What would You have me to do?

Paul became then the greatest missionary the world has ever known. And after his death, there was a church planted in every major city in the Western Roman Empire.

What was it that so transformed him? What was the philosophy that drove him? What was the motivation that kept him going?

In Romans 1 three times the apostle Paul used the phrase, “I am.” Look in verse 14, “I am obligated” (“I am debtor …”) Look in verse 15, ”…I am eager…” (“. . . I am ready . . .”) Look in verse 16, “. . . I am not ashamed . . .”

Our goal this week is to write those three “I ams” on our heart until we can say the same thing.

That will make the difference between Sunday morning religion and casual Christianity to being a Laborer in the field.

Hello Everyone, 4

I just wanted to remind you about our Thursday night celebration at Freedom Center North "breakthrough" Tonight at 7:00 see you then. Now POWER That Last.

In Exodus God appears to Moses as a flame of fire in a bush.

He manifests himself as a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud.
He is the rock that followed the children of Israel and He is the water from the rock.

He manifested Himself in the cloud of glory that filled the tabernacle when it was completed.

In 1 Kings 18 He was fire falling from heaven and consuming the sacrifice altar and all.

Acts 2:17-19 Tells us that God is a sign and a wonder God.
And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

Acts 5:12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;

It is Gods choice to use us to manifest His power to the world.

You were created for the power of God.

WE are born of the Spirit, Filled with the Spirit, led by the Spirit, taught by the Spirit. Kept by the Spirit and empowered by the Spirit.

This is no time for an attitude of indifference of who cares or what difference does it make, or I can’t make a difference anyway so why even try.

Satan’s best friend is a lukewarm believer, they are a false representation of Jesus, and they drive people away from Christ rather than draw them to Him.

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Hello Everyone, 3

On the day of Pentecost some were amazed and perplexed and asked one another, “What does this mean?” They wanted to know more.

In verse 13 of Acts 2 Some of the people mocked and made fun. They said, “They have had too much wine.”

A Sunday school teacher had taught her class to recite the Apostles Creed by giving each child one phrase to learn.
At the Sunday school presentations the class was asked to quote their lines. They began perfectly.
“I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,” said Sarah.
“I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,” chimed in Rachael.
Everything went perfect one after the other and then there was a long pause.
Finally a little girl spoke up and said, “Uh, the little boy who believes in the Holy Spirit is absent today!”

Do we believe in the Holy Spirit today as a significant part of our individual lives?

Are you more like the people in Acts 2 verse 12 who were trying to figure it all out or would you be more like those in verse 13?

Who mocked and made fun. And said, “They have had too much wine.”

We serve a God who makes His presence known (He manifests Himself in supernatural ways).

Hello Everyone, 2

If we only have the initial evidence but no empowerment, the next generation will no longer be interested in the initial evidence, which is what has happened.

But, if they see the lasting evidence-the empowerment, which performs signs and wonders among us-then they will want the initial evidence of Spirit baptism as the gateway to the ongoing evidence of a Spirit-filled life.

The question we need to ask is what we are testifying to, working in our lives?

Do we have any measure of victory?

Do we have any POWER?

Are we able to help anyone else?

Is my life changing?

Are my problems being over come?

Am I making a difference?

These are the ongoing evidence of a Spirit-Filled life.

Jesus told the Disciples that the infilling of the Holy Spirit would give them power to be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

Where is your Samaria today? Do you have power to share the Good News?

The ministry of the church today is dependent on the work of the Holy Spirit. The Word tells us it is “not by might nor by power but BY MY SPIRIT saith the Lord” (Zechariah 4:6).

He told them that another purpose for them as well as us today is that we can live more consistent and overcoming lives.

Paul realized the need for the infilling of the Holy Spirit when he told the Ephesians, “Be filled--and continue being filled--with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18).

Let’s ask ourselves, “How much do I experience God’s power today for sharing the Good News with others and for living an overcoming life?”

Am I filled with His Spirit?

How would my life change if I asked for more of God’s Spirit today?

Hello Everyone, 1

2 Corinthians 4:7NIV But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Acts 6:7KJV And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied…

This generation is looking for more than words-they need to see the demonstration of the Spirit’s person, presence, and power.

Speaking in tongues as the initial evidence is just the beginning of the baptism in the Holy Spirit; there is far more to the Spirit’s fullness!

The title of our Life Group Study is “LIFE in the Spirit”.

We will have more influence in preaching about speaking in tongues as the initial evidence if our preaching is backed up by an ongoing demonstration of the Spirit’s POWER.

His power propels the believer into the world with an anointing to witness, a life like that of Jesus-a boldness to heal the sick in spirit, soul, and body, to cast out demons, set the captive free, and to bring good news to the poor.

This is the hour for the church that has experienced Pentecost to proclaim with a new zeal and power the baptism and fullness of the Holy Spirit.

Speaking in tongues is the door that opens to the believer and catapults him beyond the natural into the supernatural.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is God’s rocket booster to lift us past what the flesh can do and into the orbit of supernatural usefulness to fulfill the great commission.

That was given by Jesus Himself in Matthew 28:19,20 He Said this, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you...”.

Hello Everyone, 5

Who is the baptism in the Holy Spirit for?

Acts 2:39, The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

In order for the church to move forward, in an increasingly wicked world, it is crucial that we receive the anointing of the Spirit and POWER.

Pentecostal theologian, Dr. Wayde Goodall writes in his book, The Blessing:
“If your employer offered you a new tool to do your job with less physical effort but more excellence and precision, would you take advantage of that offer? If a friend told you of the availability of a new program that has a great ability to assist people in their efforts to be better husbands, wives, and parents, would you be interested in the program? How about an offer of some way to improve your Christian witness or multiply your efforts for God’s kingdom?
God has offered you a gift that will give you greater power than you could ever acquire naturally. Luke calls it ‘might power,’ and it will release the power of the Holy Spirit in your life.”

We need to understand:
This experience is for all believers.
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Gift.
As a believer God’s Spirit already lives inside me.
And then ask the question am I open and receptive?

Two questions:
1. Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit?

2. If you have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, what
are you doing with Him?

Hello Everyone, 4

The book of Acts uses several expressions interchangeably to describe the baptism in the Holy Spirit:
1. Baptized in the Spirit
2. Spirit coming, or falling, upon
3. Spirit poured out
4. Promise of the Father
6. Gift of the Spirit
7. Receiving the Spirit
8. Filled with the Spirit

The terminology is simply an attempt by Luke to help us understand better the meaning of the experience.

What can I expect when I am baptized in the Holy Spirit?
The short answer would be the answer Jesus gives in Acts 1:8, But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
We will receive God’s power to be His witness in our neighborhoods and the whole world.

The Holy Spirit gives:
Boldness Under Pressure
Peter has just been thrown in prison with John for using the name of Jesus to heal a man. The religious leaders have thrown him in jail. The next day he gives this defense:
Acts 4:8-13:
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 He is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

Revelation Knowledge
Peter and the disciples did not display any real insight into Scripture in relation to the mission of Jesus before the day of Pentecost.

But, after being filled with the Spirit, Peter shows amazing insight as he relates the day’s events to passages from Joel and Psalms, Deuteronomy and Genesis.
Revelation knowledge is the ability to understand the true meaning of Scripture as given by revelation of the Holy Spirit.

Inspired Speech
By this I mean when we speak the Holy Spirit supplies the words.

We see this in Acts several times:
• Witnessing/preaching—When Peter “addressed” the crowd of mockers on the Day of Pentecost, the word for “addressed” in 2:14 is the same word
translated “enabled” in 2:4 where it says that the believers were “filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Hello Everyone, 3

What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

According to Paul
1 Corinthians 12:13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”

Paul’s teachings on the Holy Spirit mostly emphasize the Spirit’s inner-transforming or purifying work. SalvationPurification

According to Luke
He emphasizes, mostly, the Spirit’s role in empowering the believer for service.
Luke 24:49 - I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

Acts 1:4-8:
1On one occasion, while he [Jesus] was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” [John baptized people “in” water, to baptize is to dunk, immerse, submerge. This is the comparison that Jesus set up of being baptized “in” the Spirit.]
6 So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Luke emphasizes the Spirit’s empowering role in the life of the believer.

Hello Everyone, 2

Joel expresses the hope of a great day when God would visit His people.

Joel 2:28-32, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. 30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. 32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved”

The outpouring of the Spirit in this future age will extend to all God’s people and will be characterized by the Spirit’s empowering work.

The second function of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament is Purification.
The Old Testament looks ahead to the Spirit’s future inner-transforming or purifying work.

This is seen in Ezekiel 36:25-27: I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Ezekiel is describing a new age where God would transform the hearts of His people by God’s own Spirit taking up residence in each individual.

Hello Everyone, 1 Acts 2:17
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Oh to be able to create a hunger for the things of God.

We can describe a vacation and have everyone who is listening desiring to go where we have been.

We can describe a meal that we had last night and have everyone who is listening hungry for a taste.

But when it comes to the things of God how can we make them hunger for more of the things of God.

A correct understanding of the Bible’s teaching on the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is like aiming the gun at the target,

Experiencing God’s fullness and power is like pulling the trigger—which only the Spirit can do.

In the Old Testament, there are two primary functions of the Holy Spirit:

The first function of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament is…… Power

While the Spirit’s empowering work is evident in the OT, it was limited to select individuals and He “came upon” them for a short period of time for a specific purpose (prophesy, deliverance).

The Old Testament looks forward to a new day when the Messiah, Jesus, would bring about an age when all of God’s people would receive this empowerment to do God’s work.

The Holy Spirit distributes gifts as “He Will’s”:

1 Corinthians 12:11 All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.

· He guided the early church.

· He directed key missionary movements in definite specific ways.

Acts 13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

Acts 16:6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.

· In the early church He provided the warmth, the dynamic, & the joy for every part of their “DAILY” life including their work and worship.

This does not mean their minds or intelligence had no place or that they were ruled by emotion only.

Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Acts 28:23 They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.

Emotion did have a vital part yet they were expected to accept reasonable proofs, and in understanding (thinking) be men (mature).

Hello Everyone, 2

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NOT A VAGUE, OR IMPERCEPTIBLE ENERGY BUT A PERSON:

  • With intelligence, feelings & will.
  • He focuses on Jesus.

John 15:26"When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.

John 16:14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

  • He has emotions and can be grieved or vexed (pained or hurt).

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

Q: What offends or saddens the Holy Spirit? How do we grieve Him?

Ephesians 4:29 Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).

Q: How do we please Him?

Ephesians 4:32 And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
