Hello Everyone,
The word “Ascribe” in Psalms 29 1&2 is to bring a gift to the King as we enter His presence.
Our gift is our praise. We proclaim God’s awesome power and majesty.
We ascribe to the Lord glory (verse 1).
Glory in the Old Testament is the idea of heaviness, honor, or reverence.
Just as we might say something is a “heavy subject” or a “weighty matter,” God’s presence is “heavy” or “weighty.”
As we approach God, we do it in a manner that recognizes His glory.
In our casual culture, it is becoming more common for Christians to treat God in a flippant or light way.
Is God’s presence a weighty thing?
Do we honor Him with our heart, our lips, and our actions?
Praise is rightfully His by virtue of His position. We are to “ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name.” (verse 2)
When we recognize that God is among us, we should feel compelled to ascribe glory to the Lord.
It is His right and our duty to respond to Him with reverence.
We should worship the Lord “in the splendor of his holiness” (verse 2).
This gives the mental picture of someone bowing in the presence of a great king.
Our physical posture is important in our worship.
What is our posture in worship? Do we slouch, or behave in a way that shows inattention or boredom?
Let’s snap to attention, for our great King has privileged us with an invitation into His throne room.
And Oh How HE Loves Us!
Pastor Phil
