Hello Everyone,
The question from our e-votion this week is what is in your cup?
Read with me in Mark 14:32-42:
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
It is three weeks till EASTER. One of the moments that happened the week of Jesus’ Crucifixion is his travail or struggle in Gethsemane. This Gethsemane experience like every other event of His ministry is important.
Gethsemane is where Jesus went to PRAY before He faces crucifixion.
The question today is what is in your CUP? In other words what and where is our Gethsemane?
It is a place of travail; it is only you and you alone that know the extent and weight of what you are going through in life. People around you may only notice you are going through something. But they do not understand the extent of it.
It is a place of distress and trouble, Mark 14:33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.
It is a place of aloneness with God, Mark 14:35-36 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
It was a place called Peniel near Ford Jabbok for Jacob,
It is a place of encounter with your Creator,
It is a place of struggle with death, Mark 14:34 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
It is a place of earnest prayer, Luke 22: 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
It is a place of surrender to the will of the Father, Mark 14:36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
The Gethsemane Experience is a place to receive strength, Luke 22: 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
The Gethsemane Experience is a place to receive boldness and victory over the enemy, Mark 14:42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
The Gethsemane Experience is a place when you have been let down or hurt by those closes to you that is why you don’t go there with anyone, Mark 14:37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?
Greater Things Are Still To Come!
