Hello Everyone,
Other names applied to God in
the Bible include Lord (Hebrew, Adonai, Greek, Kurios,
also applied to Jesus); the Ancient of Days, (Aramaic, Attiq Yomin),
a title applied to Him in connection with His judging and ruling over the
kingdoms of this world (Daniel 7:9,13,22); "the Holy One of
Israel" (Qedosh Yisrael, used 29 times by Isaiah);
Rock, referring to refuge and strength (Hebrew, Tsur);
the Father or O Father (Hebrew, Ha-Ab, Aramaic
Abba, Greek Ho Pater, all said with
great respect); King (Hebrew, Melek, Greek, Basileus);
Redeemer (Hebrew, Go’el); Master, Owner
(Greek, First Despotes); the first and the Last,
speaking of His rule over the entire course of history (Hebrew Rishon
wa-Aharon, Greek Ho Protos kai Ho Eschatos).
All of these names show God
deserves to be treated as holy, approached and referred to with reverence.
He is different from all the human
concepts of gods or of deity.
He is so far greater, wiser,
and better than anything the human mind could conceive.
The names of Jesus show that
He deserves the same reverence, and His name and character are also
holy.
His personal name Jesus
(Greek Iesous, Hebrew Yeshua), announced by the
angel is a form of Joshua, (Hebrew Yehoshua, "Yahweh is
salvation"
She will give birth to a son, and you
are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from
their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).
The purpose of His coming was
to be and to bring salvation (Zechariah 9:9).
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout,
Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation,
See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation,
In doing this He was fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14, they "will call him Immanuel [God with us]."
God had been with His people
in Old Testament times.
In Jesus God was with His
people in a new way, as the Son of Man identifying himself with
us in true humanity from birth to death, learning by experience
what obedience means, tempted and tested in all points
just as we are—yet was without sin.
Greater Things Are Still To
Come!
